Workplace stress: TUC Guidance published
Stress is the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them.
Last week the TUC published a new guide that it has produced along with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). https://www.tuc.org.uk/workplace-issues/health-and-safety/stress/tackling-workplace-stress-using-hse-stress-management. The purpose of the guide is to help trade union health and safety representatives work with employers to find practical solutions to work-related stress.
The guide breaks down the causes of work-related stress into the six HSE Management Standards:
Demands: workload, work pattern and environment
control: over the way in which the work is done
support: resources, line management and colleagues
relationships: dealing with bad behaviour and promoting positivity
role: understanding the role and conflicting roles
change: how organisational change is communicated
The guide provides a background to the problem of stress, outlines what the HSE’s Management Standards are, says what can be done, explains the process, gives advice on how to build your knowledge and tells you where to go for additional information.
