Government proposes new plans to protect employees from sexual harassment

The Government will set out new plans to protect employees across the UK from sexual harassment. Amongst other measures, it plans to enshrine protection of employees from third party harassment into the Equality Act. It follows recent scandals like that which emerged following the men-only fundraising dinner in London for the Presidents Club charity after an FT investigation revealed hostesses at the event were groped, sexually harassed and propositioned. The provisions in the Equality Act 2010 that rendered employers liable in some circumstances for harassment of their employees by third parties were repealed on 1 October 2013.
